Grand Theft Auto V, released way back in 2013 by Rockstar Games, was a hugely successful video game, and one of the most critically-acclaimed video games of all-time, certainly during the Xbox 360/PS3 era. What might be even more impressive is that, to this day, the game keeps selling in the tens of millions, no doubt spurred by the incredible success of GTA Online, as well as its multiple re-releases on different console generations. However, as you could judge by the reveal of the GTA V re-remaster for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles earlier this year, fans have grown impatient about what they see as “cash-grabs”, and demand for the next instalment in the hugely-popular franchise has become evidently palpable – so palpable in fact, that there have been public pranks (which I absolutely do not condone) calling for the release of the next GTA game, and Rockstar themselves had even been hacked with videos of in-progress builds for the next game out on the internet for viewers to see. Finally, though, after some small teases by Rockstar Games that the game was finally in development and a release date for the announcement trailer, gamers finally saw the first look of what we can now call “Grand Theft Auto VI”. With the trailer racking up almost 100 million views in just 24 hours, it is not hyperbole that GTA VI may be the most anticipated game ever.
As you could probably already tell by the thumbnail featured for this article, Grand Theft Auto VI will return to Vice City, a parody of Miami, Florida last featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002. Whereas GTA: Vice City took place in the 1980s as an homage to the legendary crime classic film Scarface combined with a faithful recreation of the culture that defined the decade, GTA VI will take place in modern day, similar to GTA V taking place in a current Los Santos as opposed to the early-1990s Los Santos setting for GTA: San Andreas.
